Late in the afternoon of this Sunday (29), around 6 pm, an accident was registered on BR-369, in a stretch known as “Curve of Death”, near the entrance to Cornélio Procópio. A Volkswagen Jetta vehicle ended up crashing against the embankment and part of the highway guardrail, leaving three people injured, one of them in more serious condition.
According to Sergeant Muniz of the Fire Department, when the rescue teams arrived, the Military Police had already cordoned off the area and the SAMU (Mobile Emergency Care Service) was providing initial care. Inside the car were three occupants: the driver and two children. The children suffered only minor injuries, while the driver had more severe fractures.
“The driver suffered fractures in her forearm and an open fracture in her right leg, specifically in the fibula. Great care was needed during treatment to prevent further injury. The removal was carried out following proper protocol and in conjunction with SAMU (Mobile Emergency Care Service), which transported her to the Santa Casa de Cornélio Procópio hospital,” reported the sergeant.
The reason for the loss of control of the vehicle was not determined at the scene, as the priority was to ensure quick and safe assistance to the victims. It is suspected that all those involved are residents of Cornélio Procópio.
Due to the emergency response and the presence of rescue teams, the road had to be completely and temporarily closed. The Federal Highway Police were on site to assist with signage and traffic control.
The collision once again raises concerns about the risks of the "Curve of Death" stretch, one of the most critical points on the highway.
