On the morning of this Monday, October 7, 2024, a rear-end collision type traffic accident was recorded on PR 090, at km 277, in the municipality of Sapopema. The accident occurred around 9:20 am and involved two vehicles: a VW Gol and a VW/Busscar bus.
According to the State Highway Police, the driver of the VW Gol, a 72-year-old man, was taken to the Sapopema Hospital after the impact. The bus driver, 70, was not injured and took a breathalyzer test, which showed a result of 0.00 mg/l, ruling out the presence of alcohol.
According to information gathered at the scene, the bus was stopped on the road due to mechanical problems when the VW Gol, which was traveling from Sapopema to São Jerônimo da Serra, collided with the rear of it. Traffic at the scene was controlled and the highway was reopened after the vehicles were removed.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, but the stretch of highway is a single lane with a sharp bend, which may have contributed to the collision.
